Matoua X

In term 3 for Enviro Planning Day we had Matoua X come and show us how to make re-usable bags from old Tee shirts. It was a lot of fun and it is very easy so we can make it whenever.
First we would lye the shirt down flat.
Next if there is a collar then cut that out so you have a bigger neck.
After that you cut off the sleeves at the line where it has been sewed together to make the handles.
Now at the bottom of the shirt cut strips the width and length of your finger and continue flattening the shirt.
Last of all tie the top and bottom strip of the shirt into a knot, the very first and last strip needs to be cut down the middle so that you can tie it properly.
You have now finished your bag.

I really enjoyed doing this and involving the younger students.

Year 7 Camp 2017

Year 7 Camp.
On Monday we drove to the Auckland War Memorial Museum and we had some sessions about Tapa and Ciwaewae and Polynesia. It is amazing how long it took to make these. After that we traveled to Ferg's Kayaks to borrow some roller blades. It felt so unnatural rolling down the street it took me a while to the hang of it.
We divided into three groups, confident to go all the way to Mission Bay and back. Second group was confident enough to go half way and third was 100 metres and that was me.
Once we had finished roller blading we got back in the vans and had dinner in Mission Bay. Subway was good as. We had a sit up contest at the fitness playground, I did 20 and the winner was Jesse with 40. My legs were falling off after that. We arrived at the YHA Youth Hostel and slept.

On Tuesday my dorm group weren't woken up so we just played cards until we thought we better get downstairs. We explored the Maritime Museum and all about these boats from the Pacific and the shipwreck of the Orpheus in Manukau. we saw the boat Black Magic which Sir Peter Blake rode on to victory in the America's Cup. Next we hopped onto a Ferry and had a Ports of Auckland Tour. It was really cool seeing all the giant container ships and the cranes that carry the containers. We nearly went under the Harbour bridge but we didn't. Soon after that we had to walk all the way to the Sky Tower and it was an awesome view looking the the glass in the floor. After a while we took the elevator down to the bottom floor and went on a scavenger hunt around Auckland and to meet in Wynyard Quarter for dinner.

On Wednesday we had to wake up earlier to catch the Ferry called Starflyte to Rangitoto Island. We had a great tour around the island in trailers behind tractors and walked up to the summit of Rangitoto, I saw Motutapu and surrounding islands. I saw the crater of Rangitoto now filled with Pohutakawa, Manuka and Lichen. Once the tour was over we left on the Ferry and traveled back to school in the Vans. I had such a great time with all the activities. I wished I could do it again, I probably will in the holidays.
